Digital Initiatives Librarian
Lafayette College Libraries, winner of the 2014 American Library Association Excellence in Academic Libraries Award, is nationally recognized for its leadership modeling innovative approaches to digital scholarship in a liberal arts college setting. For the position of Digital Initiatives Librarian, the Department of Digital Scholarship Services (DSS) at Lafayette College Libraries seeks a talented, self-directed learner eager to hone skills and grow professionally in areas of digital scholarship and librarianship. The ideal candidate will 1) work with faculty, students, and other collaborators to generate digital assets as the raw materials of digital scholarship, and 2) consult on computational methods to analyze digital content. This faculty-status position comes with excellent professional development support.

-Collaborate with the Visual Resources Curator to fulfill digitization needs across campus, including digital asset production requests for faculty research and teaching, and digitization initiatives for College Archives & Special Collections. Contribute to planning and implementing digitization projects for other campus units such as Campus Galleries and the President’s Office, as well as for Lafayette community partners such as the Easton Area Public Library.
-Collaborate with colleagues in Digital Scholarship Services and College Archives & Special Collections to develop and apply metadata schema for digital curation and preservation tasks.
-Consult with faculty and students on computational methods to analyze digital content.
-An ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science, or an advanced degree in a related field
-Experience and/or an ability to learn in the following areas:
-digital imaging standards for visual resources; image manipulation and automation
-metadata for digital projects
-OCR software deployment
-sound and video file management
-best practices for file management and directory structuring
-High capacity for learning new techniques and emergent standards on the job
-Excellent skills in collaboration, communication, and self-education
-Exposure to and an interest to learn more about a programming language like Ruby, Java, Python, or PHP
-Experience and/or an ability to learn computational methods relevant to data science or the digital humanities, in such areas as (including but not limited to) data mining, text encoding, and algorithmic image processing
This is a full-time, 12-month position. Lafayette College offers a competitive salary and generous benefits package as compensation.
