Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree in in journalism, communication, marketing or related field, or science.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
At least one year of professional experience in communications, marketing or journalism is required. The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience as a writer, reporter and/or editor in producing content for print publications and/or electronic communications.
--Excellent writing skills, especially related to marketing communications with the ability to function well under deadline pressure
--Excellent interpersonal skills with groups and individuals in diverse settings and using a range of techniques including face to face, telephone, email and other written correspondence, and public speaking.
--Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to work toward goals within deadlines and manage complex projects.
--Proficiency with web technology and writing for the web.
The Department of Chemistry seeks a communications specialist to provide prepared and original content for social media, website, and print. The department has approximately 40 faculty and over 400 employees. Duties include department communications, alumni relations, and development.
