The Successful Candidate will:

  • Maintain the hardware, and software infrastructure in the Library Linux environment, including application support, using industry best practices and adhering to departmental guidelines. Install and configure server operating systems and related software while ensuring that data best practices, digital security standards and best practices, and departmental procedures are followed. Advise the Assistant Director, Library IT Services on industry best practices, as well as situational best practices, and alert the Assistant Director to problems as they arise.
  • Perform shell scripting and server-side scripting in the appropriate, designated languages.
  • Liaison with the Campus IT units to coordinate management of the network connections and shared infrastructure elements, and ensure high levels of integration with the IT efforts of the University. Play an active role in the development and deployment of new technologies.
  • Consult with application developers and other library departments to diagnose and troubleshoot system problems and recommend hardware/software purchases for back-end system support.
  • Work collaboratively with other library staff and faculty, external open source community, and vendor support staff in a team-based approach. Work in a team to manage system and application administration, maintaining up-to-date system documentation and managing code in a version-control system.
  • Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, or related field PLUS minimum of three years of full time development and server administration experience in a Linux environment OR, if no Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, or related field, seven years of full time development and server administration experience.
  • Working knowledge of a common, server-side scripting language, such as PHP, Perl, or Bash scripting.
  • Demonstrated ability to create automated, server-side processes using server-side scripting.
  • Demonstrated experience administering web servers, including Apache and Tomcat, and database servers, including PostgreSQL and MySQL.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and supporting open source applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in server virtualization.
  • Strong customer service attitude; enthusiasm for working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Extensive experience in creating automation scripts and tying systems together using server-side scripting, APIs, and similar tools.
  • Experience working with library applications such as Alma, DSpace, Drupal, etc.
  • Familiarity with long term storage options for archiving purposes
  • Experience working with authorization/authentication mechanisms, such as Shibboleth, LDAP, CAS.
  • Experience supporting a versioning system, preferably GIT.
  • Experience supporting locally built, custom web applications.
  • Experience with development frameworks.
  • Experience rapidly learning new technologies in a dynamic environment.

    Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

    $ 53,515.00 - $ 85,623.00   Actual salary will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, internal equity and departmental funding. Salary offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range. The range indicated includes both the typical hiring range and potential future progression.
