Reporting to the vice president of advancement, this position is responsible for leading the College’s effort to secure philanthropic revenue from foundations, corporations, and government granting agencies through strategic research, cultivation, grant preparation and implementation, and stewardship.

Antioch College

Antioch College is a 167-year-old start-up, using its re-opening in 2011 to build and scale a model for what the liberal arts experience can be for all students in the 21st century – not a four year retreat from the world, but a deeper engagement with it. Originally founded in 1850, Antioch has long been an agent of change, having been the only liberal arts college in the country with a required work component for more than 100 years. The cooperative education program reflects Antioch’s critical pedagogical insight that the separation of classroom learning from the world of work is artificial – a philosophy that has produced Nobel laureates, Fulbright and Rhodes scholars, and notables in the arts, government, business, sciences and education.

The College is currently in year two of a post-accreditation transition that reflects the president’s agenda to transform the curriculum in collaboration with the faculty. The foundation and corporate relations manager will strategically leverage the president’s knowledge of foundations that support higher education and his passion for Antioch College to build a foundation and corporate giving program that proves to be an important source of revenue for the College. The College’s senior leadership team is also eager to engage, as are faculty members who are currently writing and securing grants.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a strategic plan to expand the College’s reach in pursuing and successfully securing significant grants
  • Work with the vice president of advancement, the president, faculty and staff to identify and cultivate relationships with and submit grant proposals to foundations, corporations and government funding agencies in support of Antioch College’s educational priorities
  • Lead the development of a comprehensive portfolio of programs, research projects and other initiatives eligible for foundation and government agency support
  • Write creative and compelling grant proposals and corollary presentation materials, letters of inquiry, and grant reports
  • Maintain and grow a portfolio of foundation and corporate donors and conduct targeted research on new prospects
  • Monitor grant award compliance to ensure that funding is utilized in accordance with foundation and/or government agency requirements
  • Maintain a calendar of reporting obligations and prepare and submit grant reports as required by the funding entity
  • Work within the College’s database—Raiser’s Edge— creating and executing action plans for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of each viable funding entity
  • Participate in shaping the messaging and marketing of the organization across all communications platforms
  • Contribute to the overall success of the advancement program by working on special projects and performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Occasional work during non-standard hours including evenings and weekends
  • Occasional travel

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of progressively responsible experience (higher education experience preferred) fundraising with emphasis on grant writing and management
  • A proven track record of successfully securing significant foundation and corporate funds
  • Professional-level written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with donor database systems; Raiser’s Edge experience a plus
  • Project management, organizational, prioritizing and problem solving skills
  • A demonstrated passion for social justice and a commitment to the educational mission of Antioch College
  • Undergraduate degree required; graduate degree preferred

Physical and Environmental Considerations 

  • Position works extensively in an office environment; seated or standing and utilizing standard office equipment such as networked computers, telephones, copiers, fax machines
  • Indoor office environment; heated and cooled institutionally
  • Occasional requirement to move around campus and in other locations, indoors and outdoors, over paved and rough terrain experiencing local temperature and weather variations
