The Graduate School at Princeton University seeks an Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs who will have responsibility for the academic administration of graduate programs and students in two of the four academic divisions (the Humanities and Social Sciences). In these divisions, Princeton University offers doctoral education in 23 disciplines as well as professional master's degrees in architecture, finance, public affairs, and public policy.
This professional will join the Academic Affairs team in the Office of the Dean of the Graduate School, which offers a challenging and supportive work environment. Engaged and dedicated staff members within the office collaborate to improve the educational experience of all graduate students at Princeton. The work itself is extraordinarily rewarding: it is multi-faceted, always evolving, and meaningful.
This is a 3-year term position that will provide excellent experience and qualifications for further advancement to the successful candidate. Preference will be given to candidates who submit applications by October 10. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
Working under the supervision of the Deputy Dean and in collaboration with the other assistant deans, as well as in partnership with directors of graduate studies and with other faculty and staff members in the academic departments within these two divisions, the Assistant Dean will provide leadership in admission processes, in the orientation of new students and departmental directors of graduate studies and graduate program assistants, and in the oversight of students' progress through the milestones of their academic careers.
The Assistant Dean will articulate and implement Graduate School policy and will advise and support individual graduate students. The Assistant Dean will oversee enrollment and degree program status reviews and changes, track grades and degree requirements, and approve advanced degree materials for Ph.D. candidates. The Assistant Dean will assist in the work of the Faculty Committee on the Graduate School, investigating academic integrity violations in support of the Discipline Subcommittee and helping with prize, award, and fellowship selections in support of the Fellowship Subcommittee. Additionally, the Assistant Dean will have some communications and writing responsibilities, both for the Academic Affairs team and for the Office of the Dean of the Graduate School as a whole. These duties will include ensuring the quality of all communications from the Office, regularly reviewing the Office's website for consistency and accuracy, editing handbooks for the academic departments, and writing news stories on academic topics concerning graduate programs and graduate students.

- Superb communication skills, including excellent writing and editing skills and effective oral and presentation skills.
- Strong analytic skills.
- Ability to work under pressure of multiple deadlines and to prioritize tasks.
- Ph.D. in a discipline taught at Princeton, with strong preference given to candidates with backgrounds in the Humanities and Social Sciences;
- At least three years of directly relevant administrative experience;
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); ability to learn and use information management systems such as PeopleSoft quickly and efficiently.
