Experience Requirement: Significant experience at a literary press, a university press which publishes contemporary literature, or a literary journal with a national reputation.
Usual Duties: * Develop, share, and implement a vision for the press that embraces its core focus on the literary arts while maintaining a secondary focus that encompasses the broad demographics of the region. * Provide professional training and ongoing mentorship of graduate student interns as well as professional press staff. * Coordinate with the MFA program director and faculty, and the Texas Review editor, on program goals, curriculum, and literary offerings. * Serve as the primary acquisitions editor within the press and lead an editorial, production, and sales/marketing team to execute the press' long-term goals. * Actively represent and promote the interests of the press throughout the university, scholarly community, and publishing industry. * Serve as a public representative of the press at regional and national academic conferences, trade shows, and book fairs as well as with key contacts and events within the university and community, including an active friends group. * Maintain comprehensive knowledge of current trends and developments in publishing, including electronic publishing, and implement such knowledge strategically. * Pursue and maintain relationships with national and regional agencies and other entities. * Establish documentation of editorial workflow, publishing procedures, and transparent management and budgetary processes. * Oversee financial management to ensure fiscal stability. * Establish a peer review process in line with publishing industry best practices. * Teach one course per semester in the Department of English.
Degree Requirements: MFA or PhD in literature, folklore, creative writing, or a related field such as ethnic literature.
Other Requirements for the Position: Preferred Qualifications: * Demonstrated experience bringing together and mentoring a diverse community of students and staff, as well as experience working with diverse authors. * Some experience with financial management and/or budget planning.
