Position Overview

Design, author, and/or produce press releases, stakeholder communications and employee communications. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders. Manage projects related to media relations, brand building, and stakeholder engagement. Work with cross-functional teams, including external media partners and vendors, to ensure quality and timeliness of communications.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions

Assists in coordination of content for print, electronic and web-based media, as well as development of sport media guides and maintains records and statistics for UCO athletic programs. Conducts research as directed. Develops and plans the overall Internet engagement strategy for the department scalable across all 15 individual sport programs. Assists with communication of timely, relevant athletic scores, stories and news content with media outlets in state. Works with sport coaches as necessary to maximize media coverage for sport programs. Assists in producing special interest stories for inclusion in media throughout Oklahoma. Assists with game day operations and media table planning and preparation. Serves as a primary statistics administrator (i.e., StatCrew) at select sports events. Keeps abreast of issues, trends and other information governing and affecting UCO athletics ability to produce and publicize items of interest to the community. Coordinates press conferences and post-game interviews as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. Reports to the Director of Media Relations and Assistant AD - Internal Operations.. According to NCAA regulation, must obtain prior written permission from the Director of Athletics for all athletic-related income to be received from sources outside the institution. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of and adheres to applicable NCAA, Conference, University, and departmental rules and regulations. Upon notification of any NCAA violation, reports the violation to the NCAA Compliance Office. Also has a responsibility to follow applicable procedures and cooperate fully with any and all investigations of potential violations of NCAA, Conference, University or departmental rules and regulations. Serves on NCAA sport committees as needed. Reports to the Athletic Director. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience Required

Requires a university degree in related field or 4+ years of equivalent work experience in chosen filed that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred

Required: Demonstrated interest or involvement in media relations work. Preferred: Previous media relations experience. Previous experience in college athletics environment.


Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, human relations, public relations, and organizational skills. Must be energetic, creative, and highly motivated.

Physical Demands

Repetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms.

Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
