Job Description:

Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination, administration, and educational leadership of the Adult Basic Education Program. Duties include the following: oversee the hiring and training of all DESE funded staff, facilitate curriculum development to ensure it is aligned with the DESE ESOL Curriculum Frameworks and the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education, oversee required assessment administrations, coordinate, and communicate with ABE partners, and prepare reports and grant budgets for submission to DESE.

ESOL Instructor provides group instruction to adult learners to prepare them to acquire the English language skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking and to transition to postsecondary and/or vocational education for career ladder employment. Instructors are required to align the curriculum with DESE ABE Curriculum Frameworks and the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education. Instructional methods must reflect a student centered learning philosophy, vary lesson plans to accommodate different learning styles, integrate workplace/job search skills into lesson plans and integrate digital literacy into class instruction. Use technology outside of class time to supplement and enhance class instruction for example, communicating via e mail and academic content web sites, such as Englishforall.org. The ESOL Instructor must maintain student assessment information to track student progress and determine when a student meets performance criteria to move to the next class level. The ESOL Instructor develops lessons plans to assist students in educational goal setting and communicates with the Academic & Career Advisor on student issues.

COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Supervise and manage all staff and faculty at the BHCC program site.
  • Facilitate monthly program management meetings for staff and faculty.
  • Facilitate monthly curriculum and assessment meetings for faculty.
  • Conduct classroom observation of BHCC faculty fall and spring semesters.
  • Oversee all required DESE assessment testing.
  • Work with staff and faculty to develop yearly professional development goals.
  • Coordinate community planning activities with all program sites.
  • Coordinate the hiring, training, and professional development activities of staff and faculty.
  • Write grants, budget amendments and reports for DESE.
  • Monitor grant expenditures at all program sites.
  • Monitor SMARTT data collection and entry.
  • Attend all mandatory DESE meetings.
  • Attend professional development workshops and conferences.
  • Expect to meet all required DESE professional development hours outlined in individual professional development plan.
  • New hires are required to attend the 15 hour DESE new director trainings.

ESOL TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Align curriculum with DESE ABE Curriculum Frameworks and the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education.
  • Select and develop appropriate materials for class use; review and update materials each semester to maintain relevance.
  • Submit update class syllabus each semester and lessons plans bimonthly to the Program Director.
  • Collaborate with the Academic and Career Advisor to assist students in developing their individual academic and career plans.
  • Maintain and submit weekly attendance records to Student Support Assistants.
  • Develop lesson plans with Academic & Career Advisor on student goal setting.
  • Attend ABE program management meetings.
  • Attend ABE curriculum planning meetings.
  • Attend professional development workshops and conferences to meet the 2.5% DESE mandated professional development activities for all ABE staff and faculty.
  • New hires are required to attend the 15 hour DESE new teacher trainings.

Requirements:

  • Masters' Degree in Education, Administration or other related discipline. ABE teaching license a plus.
  • Experience in administration of adult education programs.
  • Experience working and teaching adult learners and diverse populations.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Experience in grant writing.
  • Experience in budget development and management.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in using technology in the classroom. Experience in instructional design a plus.
  • Ability to adapt teaching styles and materials to meet individual needs of students.

Additional Information:

Salary: 18hrs./wk. @ $36.55/hr. (non-benefitted MCCC position)
