Job Summary


The Director of the Student Services is responsible for the overall management of the Student Services, and/or Retention & Transition area which may be composed of the following departments/areas: Advisement and Career services, ACCESS Services, Student Life, Recruitment, International Students, Orientation and Testing. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.


Duties & Responsibilities


•Manages the activities of all student services, including but not limited to: enrollment management, admissions, orientation, registration, testing, academic advisement, scholarships, job placement, career and transfer, and other student-related activities
•Participates in the identification and review of student needs and interests and provides for positive response to such changing needs
•Provides leadership in planning and implementing counseling and staff development activities and the development of new educational programs to meet the needs of the local community
•Creates a culture that supports student success and support services to the campus and local communities
•Oversees the supervision and evaluation of personnel, which includes hiring, training, and problem resolution
•Develops and implements an enrollment management program
•Manages outreach and enrollment initiatives
•Develops grants to support Campus and Student Services initiatives; and develops and implements assessment plan for student support services and programs
•Serves on Campus and College committees
•Oversees all aspects related to student discipline prior to escalating matters to the Office of the Student Dean
•Identifies, tracks, and supports students identified at-risk and the academically talented
•Utilizes technology to support the planning, implementation and on-going evaluation of campus recruitment, retention and transition programs and services
•Directs the creation of dynamic and innovative programs that will facilitate, improve and/or sustain student success at the College
•Implements instructional programs
•Prepares and maintains budgets
•Works on College and Campus initiatives addressing enrollment management; as well as, student recruitment, retention, and transition
•Advises students during peak enrollment periods
•Assists with research by assessing changing student demographics and campus trends to support program design
•Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements


•Master's degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs Administration/Counseling or related field, five (5) years of relevant administrative experience
•All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
•Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
•Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
•Ability to supervise and train assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments and possess skills in employee development and performance management
•Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
•Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
•Ability to exercise judgment, initiative, and maintain strict confidentiality
•Possess skills in budget preparation and fiscal management
•Knowledge and understanding of a range of student life/service issues and concerns
•Knowledge of computer-based testing and machine scoring as well as Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
•Knowledge of educational development test administration and interpretation.
•Possess strategic planning skills to effect change in a multi-cultural environment
•Possess skills in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
•Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
•Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
•Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
