Assistant Professor in Creative Writing - Fiction
Northern Arizona University invites applications for a full time, tenure-eligible assistant professor position in fiction writing for the Fall of 2018. Duties will include graduate and undergraduate teaching in fiction writing (and secondary interest as appropriate), mentoring students, serving on departmental, college, and/or university committees, and directing/reading theses for our thriving MFA program.
The successful candidate must have an MFA or PhD in Creative Writing--Fiction, or a PhD in English with Emphasis in Creative Writing--Fiction by the time of appointment. Minimum qualifications also include a strong publication record in literary fiction as demonstrated by the publication of one book of original fiction (or contract) by an established, nationally recognized press, or at least five pieces of literary prose published in reputable, established, nationally distributed literary venues (journals, magazines, anthologies) in print or online; and at least one year of university/college-level writing instruction.
Strong preference will be given to those applicants who have experience teaching creative writing courses at the university/college level. Secondary experience in playwriting or creative nonfiction is also preferred. We also seek candidates who have had success in or demonstrate potential for pursuing funding opportunities for their creative work and who are knowledgeable of trends in the literary marketplace and can demonstrate the ability to instruct and mentor students as they move toward publication of their own work.
