Position Summary:

The Arkansas State University System Associate General Counsel serves as counsel for all campuses within the System. This position is based at the ASU System Office in Little Rock, Arkansas.

This is a non-classified position governed by institutional policy reporting to the System General Counsel.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Associate General Counsel drafts policies, procedures, and other guidance documents for use by all campuses, meets regularly with campus constituents to provide updates on changes in the law and to make recommendations on compliance under the supervision of general counsel, monitors and assists with state, federal and other regulatory matters applicable to higher education, and assists with litigation.

This individual also prepares and reviews contracts for use by all System campuses, and travels to ASU System campuses to meet with campus constituents.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to effectively and accurately research federal and state law as it applies to issues in higher education, identify and present emerging legal issues in an understandable manner to all System campus constituents, communicate effectively with, administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni and members of the public both in oral and written presentations, analyze legal issues and make appropriate recommendations as to best practices, and handle multiple projects at once.

Candidates must be self-motivated.

General Days/Hours:

Monday -Friday
8AM-5PM - occasional overtime
Occasional travel required

Other:

The Associate General Counsel has regular contact with University General Counsel, the System President and Chancellors of all campuses, as well as, direct contact with, administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the general public as necessary to address legal issues.

A minimum of three (3) years experience as a practicing attorney is preferred but not required.

Minimum Qualifications:

The qualified candidate must possess an Arkansas Law License.
