Position Summary:

The Director of Athletic Bands/Assistant Director of Bands will serve as administrator and director of all A-State Athletic Bands including the Sound of The Natural State Marching Band, the A-State Men’s and Women’s Basketball Bands, and the A-State Volleyball Band.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Director of Athletic Bands/Assistant Director of Bands will be the primary liaison with the A-State Athletic Department.

In collaboration with the Director of Bands and Associate Director of Bands, the Director of Athletic Bands/Assistant Director of Bands will provide support for undergraduate and graduate students within the instrumental music program and assist with the administration of all band activities including student recruitment and outreach. Additional duties will be assigned based on the strengths of the selected applicant and needs of the department.

These duties may include conducting the Concert Band, teaching marching band techniques, and supervising student teachers. Additionally, the applicant will participate fully in the responsibilities of faculty membership (student recruiting and retention, student advisement, curriculum development, service activities).

Doctorate and Collegiate/University level teaching experience preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Master’s Degree in Music or related field.

Secondary school teaching experience is required.

Other required qualifications include working collaboratively with public school band programs and demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups associated with a major university band program including students, faculty, university administration, athletic department staff, alumni, and community members. A strong commitment to and evidence of successful student recruitment is essential.
