The A-State Criminology, Sociology and Geography Department is searching for candidates to fulfill a nine-month, tenure-track appoint at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Faculty members deliver instruction, carry out research, perform service for their respective professions, institution and community, and participate in the management of the University through shared governance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated experience in teaching and conducting research in the broad areas of Policing, Corrections or Courts in order to complement the department’s current areas of focus (see below). The successful candidate should also be able to teach Research Methods or Statistics. The normal teaching load is 4/4 but course reductions (usually to a 3/3) are provided for pre-tenured faculty and faculty conducting regular research. Faculty members are expected to deliver instruction, carry out research, and perform services for their respective professions, institutions, and community. Candidates should have a track record of publications or demonstrate the ability and potential to publish.
The successful candidate will be prepared to provide instruction and conduct research in the area of Criminology and/or Criminal Justice, and have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, a record of scholarly and professional activities, a readiness to participate in university and departmental service, and a willingness to contribute to distance learning courses.
Ability to teach classes on Policing, Corrections, or Courts is preferred.
A Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or closely related discipline conferred by the time of appointment is required. ABDs will be given full consideration.
