Position Summary: Teaching in the undergraduate and graduate programs in advertising and mass communication. Applicants must demonstrate high potential to establish and conduct a scholarly research program.

Minimum Preferred Qualifications: The Department of Advertising and Public Relations at The University of Alabama seeks an outstanding faculty member for a tenure-track assistant professor position. The start date could be as early as January 1, 2018 or August 16, 2018. Candidates must be able to teach communication research and consumer insights, advertising account planning, and strategic and critical thinking. This position also could entail teaching creative advertising development courses if such classes were a fit with the candidate's professional background. Finally, this role offers teaching opportunities in the department master's programs and the college-wide doctoral program. An earned doctorate in communication or related field is required by date of appointment. Applicants must demonstrate high potential to establish and maintain a strong scholarly research program. Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required. Salary is open and based on qualifications. The department is one of five academic units in the College of Communication & Information Sciences, which has more than 2400 undergraduate and 376 graduate students, as well as 75 full-time faculty members. The department has more than 1,200 undergraduate students. The college-wide Ph.D. program has more than 50 students. The department includes the Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations, as well as student-led advertising and public relations agencies serving a variety of clients. The department has a strong commitment and an excellent reputation for service learning and outreach. All University, college and department units are fully accredited. Located in historic Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the University is more than 175 years old, and is one of two comprehensive universities in Alabama. Undergraduate enrollment for the upcoming Fall 2017 semester is expected to be approximately 38,000 with an additional 5,000 graduate students.
