Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

-A minimum of five years of experience in higher education or academic health care environment with responsibilities requiring sound judgment and involving policy-making.
-Employment record showing increasingly responsible jobs related to this position is required.
- Excellent writing and communication skills required.
-Experience in a highly complex, matrixed organization such as an academic health center, or a research-oriented university is preferred.
-Ability to interact and influence at the most senior levels of an organization and to work collaboratively across functions, levels and departments toward shared objectives.
-Ability to professionally manage confidential and sensitive information and issues



Position Summary:

The Chief of Staff reports directly to the Dean and works closely with the Dean on a wide variety of administrative and executive duties, special projects, and initiatives involving the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) and its priorities. This role enables the Dean to work most effectively with internal and external stakeholders and fulfill commitments to the school, functioning as a representative of the Dean. This is a highly strategic and facilitative role, often working in tandem or on behalf of the Dean on priorities and projects which are critical to the school's missions and success. The incumbent uses independent judgement and analytical skills to follow through on issues on behalf of the Dean.

This position provides operational support to both the Dean and the broader membership of the Dean's Leadership Team. Works closely with the Dean's Leadership Team and Dean's Office staff as well as leadership of UW Health, SMPH's primary clinical partner, to set major priorities, coordinate communications strategies, develop policies, and monitor progress on major projects.
