About the College/Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers BS degrees to approximately 550 undergraduates with an average high school GPA of 3.82 and participates in the programs of the University Honors College. The MS and PhD programs serve approximately 40 graduate students. The faculty includes 2 NSF Career Awardees and produces over 30 publications per year. Summary of Job Duties

The Post Doctoral Fellow will conduct research in the areas of polymer engineering, biomaterials, and bioinspired materials and surfaces and develop new research directions, write journal papers, write proposals to secure extramural funding for research and commercialization of research, and mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or physics (or ABD with expected completion by January 1, 2018)
  • Demonstrated expertise in two or more of the following areas: polymer science and engineering, biomaterials, additive manufacturing, surface engineering, nanomaterials and nanofabrication, nanomechanics/nanoindentation, and nanotribology
  • Journal publication record in two or more areas listed above

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least three years of experience in polymer synthesis and engineering, fabricating and characterizing nanoscale structures and materials using AFM, nanoindenter, SEM, XPS, TEM, and XRD and other nanoscale techniques, and in developing novel polymer materials and nanomaterials for biomedical, surface wetting or tribological applications
  • Experience in E-beam lithography, 3D laser lithography, and 3D printing
  • Experience in writing proposals

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
