This position is located in the Mathematics department and serves as the Division of Finance & Administration's principal University Business Administrator representative to the department.
This position oversees all business operations of the department including HR transactions, time and leave, effort reporting, procurement and travel. Approves financial transactions and personnel actions. The position supervises administrative and accounting staff in the department, is responsible for hiring and training in activities related to general accounting, procurement activities including p-card, accounts payable and receivable activities, t-card and travel reimbursements.
Coordinates with the College of Arts & Sciences and UBA (when applicable) to update position descriptions and review department staff structure. Assigns and prioritizes work assignments, and establishes performance standards. Responsible for coordinating with the Chair and the Chair's assistant the timely completion of all faculty assignment of responsibilities, FACET's and evaluations. This includes assisting the Chair with the complex task of determining the distribution of effort for each of the faculty in Math.
Responsible for the Sponsored Projects Administration for the department including pre-award and post-award activities. Monitors or completes account reconciliations for compliance with federal funding agency guidelines. Reviews grants activities and implements best practices. Advises faculty on rules and regulations regarding purchases and contractual services for all funding agencies and the University, works with faculty to resolve financial conflicts. Compiles and analyzes financial data for intermediate or final reports, and conducts trend analyses on the use of funds.
This position serves as the Budget Account Manager and approves all financial transactions as directed by the Chair of the department. Coordinates and monitors all related functions for Math in various areas. Directs site staff in routine duties necessary to ensure accurate and timely financial and other related business functions. Prepares and communicates financial reports to the department chair on a monthly basis for departmental accounts.
Works with chair and College to develop long-range goals of the department. Recommends policies, long-range planning, implementation of strategic initiatives, and policies and procedures ensuring consistency with the mission of the assigned department. Works with the Chair to complete informational reports as necessary for department reviews or survey responses. Reviews organizational structure of the department and makes recommendation for effectiveness and efficiency.
Bachelor's Degree and two years of experience. Ability to utilize problem solving skills. Ability to train and supervise employees. Knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to perform accurately in a detail oriented environment. Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives. Experience managing federal, state and private sources for contract and grant funds Experience compiling, reviewing, and reconciling data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance. Experience working with Microsoft Office, Excel, and other applicable computer applications. Experience interpreting and applying related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices. Experience preparing and monitoring budget information. Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations. ***Resume Required***
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
Anticipated Salary Range
Mid to High 40's
