Eastern Washington University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning January 2018.

EWU's Children's Studies Program is an interdisciplinary program focused on fostering collaboration and participatory democracy, honoring children's rights and children's voice, and supporting holistic, reflective practices on the part of adults who work with children. In addition, the program works to develop and disseminate research and outreach projects that enhance children's cognitive, emotional, social, and physical well-being. The program is a part of the College of Social Sciences, which offers opportunities for creative interdisciplinary course work and research.

The Children's Studies Program is seeking a colleague with a strong commitment to students, collegiality, quality teaching, and advising as well as scholarly potential. The faculty member hired for this position will be welcomed into an academic community dedicated to cultural diversity, community engagement, and social justice.

Ph.D. in Children's Studies or other interdisciplinary or appropriate social science field (for ABD candidates, the PhD. must completed by time of hire)




Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Children's Studies or other interdisciplinary or appropriate social science field (ABD must complete Ph.D. by time of hire);
  • Teaching experience in Children's Studies or a closely related field; preference may be given to candidates with multiple years teaching experience.
  • Experience with developing and delivering on-line and distance education classes
  • An active research agenda in Children's Studies or closely related field;
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs including universal accessibility of our students, faculty, staff and the public.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two or more years of teaching Children's Studies courses
  • Two or more years of experience with development and delivery of online courses in Children's Studies
  • Two or more years of advising undergraduate majors in Children's Studies or a closely related field
  • Experience working collaboratively with multiple departments and programs
  • Experience developing and/or participating in child-centered programs
  • Experience with grant writing
