This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position (with the possibility of reappointment/permanency) anticipated to end on or before 06/30/2018. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The Exchange Coordinator / International Student advisor works under the supervision of the ISC Associate Director and is directly responsible for advising exchange students, international students on F-1 and J-1 student visas and coordinating the exchange student application process. This position is responsible for independently designing, developing, implementing and evaluating a full range of services and programs which meet the international objectives of the University and the special needs of incoming exchange students from partner institutions abroad and degree seeking international students. In addition, this position supports the management of the Student Exchange Visitor Information Systems (SEVIS) database and will be a Designated School Official (DSO) and a Responsible Officer (RO) in international student advising.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,935 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,935 - $5,595 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
Minimum one-year experience in international education
Working knowledge of SEVIS
Extensive knowledge and understanding of: regulatory requirements affecting student mobility across borders; issues related to international student as they relate to regulatory matters and overall well-being; cultural factors influencing international student attitudes and behaviors.
Strong demonstrated skills in: computer programming and databases; public speaking and encouraging students to seek regulatory and general advice; intercultural communications and cross-cultural relations; interpersonal communication skills, particularly related to advising students and interacting with faculty, staff, and parents; and implementing successful strategies to meet specified goals.
