Sign Technician (Carpenter)

Educational and Experience Requirement: High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. Technical/vocational training related to job duties would be helpful. Minimum of five years’ experience working with AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop. Minimum of two years experience working with cut vinyl or vinyl vehicle wraps preferred. A combination of education, experience and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Primary Responsibilities: Creates vinyl signs, banners, office signs, way finding signs, plaques, name plates, laminated signs, drawings, and maps. Uses all manners of software to create and manufacture signs including AutoCad, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Flexi, Dr. Engrave, Versa Works, Onyx and the Microsoft Office Suite. Uses multiple machines to manufacturer signs including vinyl print and cut, color poster printer, engraving machine, standard laser large format printer, and laminating equipment. Must be able to apply vinyl in flat work applications. Will be installing all manner of signs and banners. Must be able to design, purchase, and install ADA signage. Must be able to read and interpret drawings and specifications. Will use the Computerized Maintenance Management System with work orders to allocate time and document work on a daily basis. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Must be able to use various types of teels and equipment of the carpentry trade including; ladders, hammers, all types of screwdrivers, ratchets, utility knives, all types of adhesives, paint, primer, all types of electric drills, and tape measures. Will be exposed to various weather elements, dust, dirt, heat, cold, noise, vibration, congested work area, confined spaces, overhead work, and heavy lifting. Must be able to climb ladders, stairs, inclines and declines. Work occasionally includes high places, mechanical rooms, plant environments, kneeling, bending, and crawling. Must be willing and able to work on campus during weekends, holidays, overtime, and during emergency situations as needed. Position requires driving and operating a university vehicle; therefore, a valid Texas driver license and driving record acceptable to the university’s insurance carrier is required.
