Position Summary:
The Chemistry Laboratory and Stockroom Assistant Manager ensures that the chemistry department stockroom is maintained as a safe, efficient, and organized storeroom for chemicals and other materials used by the chemistry department teaching and research labs.

Essential Functions:
The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following functions, which are not listed in any particular order of significance:

  • Prepares solutions and laboratory setups; places reagents, equipment, and supplies in the laboratories as needed for each teaching lab. Removes used items at the end of each lab experiment and restock as necessary.
  • Orders, receives and maintains records of chemicals, supplies, and instrumentation, and updates inventory as needed.
  • Supervises 2-3 student stockroom assistants.
  • Supervises check-in and check-out procedures every semester and lab cleanup at the end of the year.
  • Maintains records of departmental equipment, chemicals, and apparatus on hand.
  • Ensures the safe storage, correct handling and proper disposal of chemicals.
  • Assists the Chemical Hygiene Officer/ Chemistry Lab and Stockroom Manager in other duties as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    1. Bachelor's degree in chemistry, environmental health & safety, or other fields that provide a combination of education and experience of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
    2. General office and basic bookkeeping skills.
    3. Ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain harmonious relations with other staff, faculty, and students.
    4. Thorough knowledge of laboratory chemicals and chemical hygiene practices.
    6. Good administrative and supervisory skills.
    7. Good communication skills.
    8. Ability to provide support to faculty in planning and coordinating labs.
    9. Ability to safely lift 40-50 lbs. regularly.
    10. An employer-paid pre-placement physical required.
    11. Ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain harmonious relations with other staff, faculty, and students.
    12. This position is subject to a criminal conviction record check.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    1. Previous laboratory and stockroom experience.
    Work Schedule: Tuesday-Thursday, working 24 hours per week. The job will require occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs. All work is indoors in a normal lab stockroom/laboratory environment.

    This is a temporary position which is not eligible for benefits. The hourly rate for this position is $15.
