Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Annual Giving and is responsible for achieving fundraising and participation goals, developing the student caller program strategy, and managing the day-to-day operation of the Husky Calling Center with an overall goal of increasing donor retention and alumni and parent participation.

Responsibilities include the development and implementation of the annual fundraising and outreach strategy for the Husky Calling Center program, including working closely with the Director of Annual Giving and other staff in setting financial and participation goals, developing an annual calling calendar, writing scripts, tracking progress to goals, developing strategies for improved performance, and conducting stewardship outreach to current and past donors. The Assistant Director coordinates the nightly calling shift and directly supervises 50-60 student callers (22 per shift). The Assistant Director will coordinate the recruiting, screening, interviewing, and hiring process of part-time student callers on a rolling basis to ensure the calling center is fully staffed throughout the academic year. Additional responsibilities include comprehensive training and coaching sessions with student employees at the beginning of the semester and throughout the year, and serving as the liaison between Northeastern, managing the pledge fulfillment program, and the calling center software vendor. The Assistant Director will provide student employees with on-going guidance and education about the university, including seeking news and updates from colleagues within Advancement and across campus for alumni updates and script creation. Other responsibilities include monitoring phone calls and coaching student employees throughout shift, conducting performance evaluations of student employees to ensure maximum quality and effectiveness, creating and implementing strategies to motivate and reward exemplary student callers, apprising callers of the progress toward annual goals, and organizing calling segments and creating solicitation codes to effectively track and monitor progress. The Assistant Director will be responsible for the scheduling of callers for nightly calling shifts and ensuring that all shifts are fully staffed, adding student callers to the payroll system, and serving as a liaison with the Northeastern IT department when necessary.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience required. A minimum of one year of annual giving, telemarketing, or applicable experience. Staff management and higher education calling center experience very strongly preferred. This position requires excellent spoken, written and interpersonal skills.

A demonstrated ability to speak and write persuasively about higher education. Aptitude for numbers and analysis is important. Ability to motivate and manage a diverse group of student employees is essential. To be successful, must be a mature team player who is highly motivated and dedicated to the goals of advancing higher education.

Evening and weekend work is required to fulfill job responsibilities; the hours for this position are 1:00-9:00pm. Sunday through Thursday for the majority of the academic year. All candidates must be able and willing to work independently and unsupervised on nights and weekends.
