Perform a variety of multi-skilled support functions in a clinical research unit laboratory. Tasks include specimen receipt and preparation for analysis; assist with workflow coordination; perform routine clerical and technical processes to support study specific protocols; adhere to defined quality control and quality assurance practices; serve as a liaison to internal and external customers. Position Responsibilities & Key Tasks: Perform a variety of routine and specialized laboratory procedures a. Receive and process samples as required by laboratory procedures and study protocols. b. Perform clinical laboratory testing as defined by DEPRU laboratory procedures. c. Report test results to PI or study coordinator as defined by process. d. Utilize various hospital and DEPRU related information systems and software. Assist with coordination of technical activities pertaining to the needs of the unit. a. Development of workflow and scheduling coverage. b. Assist in the validation of new laboratory procedures and techniques. c. Review laboratory section of study protocol to determine sample volumes and order of draw for study start up team. Assist senior technologist with implementation of laboratory. a. Attend training on all instrumentation and support equipment. b. Creation of laboratory protocols; ongoing reviews and updates. c. Validation testing. Follow laboratory quality management program to include requirements of national laboratory regulatory agencies. a. Keep all training up to date to include lab protocols and Duke safety requirements. b. Perform QC and proficiency testing according to prescribed schedule. Perform routine laboratory equipment maintenance. a. Perform equipment maintenance and calibration as required. b. Document maintenance, QC, and troubleshooting activities. Other Duties: a.Process and ship study samples per study specific protocol instructions. b. Participate in sample collection as needed. c. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
