Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute at Northeastern and in close partnership with University Advancement, develops, fosters and maintains productive and growing relationships between the institute and three classes of industrial partners: 1) companies participating in the Industrial Affiliates Program (IAP); 2) major industrial sponsors supporting lab-wide, multi-year initiatives; and 3) companies that support an individual principal investigator's industrial projects.

The Director of Industry Partnerships is responsible for implementing the overall strategic direction for the IAP and Industry engagement, and will be a leader who helps the Institute build upon its strong position and mission in cyber security and privacy research, and who will provide the innovative leadership needed to fully realize its mission and vision. In all cases, works closely with the executive director of the Institute, and with University Advancement in the solicitation, formation, and management of the partnership through an in-depth understanding of the partner's business, technology needs and research priorities, and matching them with ongoing research activities in the Institute. Works closely with the executive director, Advancement and internal advisory board to develop the strategic business plan to optimize the operations to most effectively engage and sustain industry partners.

Industrial Affiliates Program:

  • Actively identifies and recruits IAP's prospective companies to become participants
  • Responsible for understanding the major business and technology issues facing the relevant industry partners in order to better understand their research funding priorities
  • In collaboration with identified institute faculty, initiates and leads interactions with key industry stakeholders to promote the exchange of ideas
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of institute principal investigators, activities and research and accurately matches them to the needs of the IAP companies
  • Responsible for maintaining productive relationships with IAP member companies
  • Develops IAP operational plans to most effectively engage and sustain industry partners
  • Develops IAP annual meeting agendas in conjunction with the Executive Director and Faculty
  • Manages and facilitates partners' visits to the institute and other related industry sponsored events
  • Oversees administrative support staff responsible for preparing and organizing all logistical details of meetings, visits, and events

    Leadership and Vision:

  • Develops a strategic business plan with the Executive Director, Dean of CCIS, University Advancement and Faculty to engage industry partners, identify key research opportunities and potential sponsor programs
  • Determines which research projects to support; helps create and develop opportunities for new research collaborations and sets deliverables
  • Articulates and communicates the Institute's vision and mission as a national leader in the field of cyber security and privacy to industry partners and sponsors
  • Identifies planning needs, communicates needs to the Executive Director and manages the planning process
  • Oversees the implementation and achievement of the strategic plan

    Institute Advisory Board Relations:

  • Develops and maintains relationships with Advisory Board members pertaining to industry engagement with Institute
  • Presents plans and strategic priorities regarding industry engagement to the Advisory Board and solicits feedback and support for this work
  • Develops and presents reports to the Advisory Board regarding industry engagement as needed


  • Determines (with the CCIS events team) staffing needs to support the industry engagement operation and IAP program
  • Hires and supervises staff as required
  • Works closely with CCIS administrative teams including but not limited to marketing and events, advancement, graduate program administration, research administration, and others as identified.

    Online Course Development:

  • Manages the creation for online courses disseminating Institute research content and serves as a liaison with PAN
  • Coordinates of the course staff for scheduling the video sessions, compiling a complex set of online materials, and managing the communication (inward and outward)
  • Develops and executes the marketing plan for the Institute online courses


    Master’s degree required, preferably in computer science or related engineering fields. Minimum of eight years of related experience in business development, technological marketing and/or industrial relations. Strategic thinker with strong program management skills. Proven ability to understand, communicate and present complex technical information effectively in both a sales and a service context. Solid experience in relating to and negotiating with senior corporate executives. Ability to manage multiple objectives and tasks and meet competing deadlines. Must have outstanding leadership, management, and interpersonal skills to relate to a wide diversity of faculty, staff, students and community members. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Must be able to travel locally, nationally and internationally approximately 10% to 20% of the time and to attend occasional night and weekend events. Familiarity with Northeastern is preferred.
