            The University of Charleston seeks candidates for a 9-month full-time position in American Literature.  The University of Charleston, located in the capital city of Charleston, West Virginia, is known for its outcomes-based curriculum.  The English program within the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.  

            The successful candidate must be doctorally prepared in American Literature.  Candidates who are ABD with a commitment to complete the doctoral degree will be considered.  The successful candidate will have a specialization in American Literature. Experience in the design and teaching of online courses is preferred. The successful applicant will be committed to serving English majors as well as students in majors across the university and online.  

            Responsibilities of the position:

  • Teach American Literature courses
  • Teach in the Humanities First-Year Experience program
  • Guide senior research projects
  • Academic advising
  • Participate in faculty governance
  • Help in the recruiting of students
  • Participate in assessment of program outcomes
  • Maintain a robust scholarly agenda
