IT Shared Services (ITSS) is part of the Finance Division of The University of North Texas System. The mission of ITSS is simple: to be the best at delivering customer-aligned IT solutions and services. Our services are provided to all member institutions using an IT shared services governance model.

IT Shared Services provides the primary technology used by all campuses to support their operations. These include: shared resources of data centers, computing hardware, software applications, network and voice communications, collaboration and productivity capabilities, central web services, risk management, and security and compliance services. Job Description
The Enterprise Applications Support Team (EAST) is looking for an entry level Systems Administrator to join our team. EAST is responsible for managing and maintaining some of UNT System's most important applications such as Blackboard Learn. This team has a history of being at the forefront of technology, and as a result, has been a key player in bringing DevOps and other modern systems administration approaches to the organization.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
* Administer and maintain Linux and Windows systems and applications.
* Monitor application stability and performance.
* Troubleshoot system and application issues.
* Ensure application and system security.
* Assist more senior members of the team in developing custom tools.
* Automate processes.
* Document application design and procedures.
* Participate in an on-call rotation.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in related field and two years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:
* Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department.
* Knowledge of principles of computing and communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environment.
* Ability to operate computer keyboards and to install computer hardware.
* Ability to assimilate, retain and utilize technical and applications-oriented information.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
* Advanced-level Linux system administration skills.
* Solid understanding of fundamental protocols and technologies like TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS.
* Experience with configuration management tools (Salt, Puppet, Ansible).
* Experience with system and application monitoring tools (Zabbix, Nagios, Zenoss).
* Experience working with version control systems (Git, SVN).
* Experience with continuous integration and pipeline tools such as Jenkins.
* Understanding of application load balancing techniques.
