The Department of Kinesiology at California State University, Fresno is seeking a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor or the Associate Professor rank. The successful candidate will teach and conduct research in the professional Master of Science in Athletic Training program in at least two of the following areas: diagnosis of injury, rehabilitation, occupational health and safety, thermoregulation, catastrophic injury/emergency preparation, sport safety policy. Additional responsibilities include scholarly activities, advising students, graduate project/thesis supervision, curriculum development, collaborative research, service at all levels of the university, community outreach, and other activities deemed appropriate.

The Department of Kinesiology has well-established graduate programs in several Kinesiology disciplines such as Sport Psychology, Exercise Science, and Sport Administration, plus a Master of Science in Athletic Training to begin Fall 2019. Our faculty members have diverse clinical and research expertise across the lifespan, including pediatric, adolescent, and aging populations of the culturally diverse Central Valley. Faculty research initiatives are broad and collaborative with faculty from across the University ( http://www.fresnostate.edu/chhs/.) In addition to external grant support, faculty have received both assigned time and funding through Chancellor, Provost, and College awards. Faculty research and faculty-led student projects have won numerous awards over the last several years.

The department has classrooms and laboratories including state-of-the-art equipment to support both teaching and research, including four labs: the Human Performance Laboratory equipped with Parvo Metabolic Cart, EMG, BodPod, Biodex Isokinetic Dynamometer, and an array of research-grade treadmills and bicycles; the Hydration Exercise And Thermoregulation [HEAT] Lab complete with a Cantrol Environmental Chamber, electronically-braked cycle ergometer and multiple methods to measure hydration; the Sport and Exercise Psychology Lab; as well as the Athletic Training laboratory with state of the art teaching spaces, patient simulation examination room, video capture and projection capabilities, conference room with student library, and simulated athletic training clinic complete with examination and rehabilitation equipment. The program also has a human cadaver laboratory with a filtered ventilation system and overhead dissecting camera system.

A common collaborator, The Department of Physical Therapy, houses two research laboratories, one known as the Gait Analysis Movement Evaluation (GAME) laboratory and the other is a new Pediatrics Research laboratory. The GAME lab is currently equipped to do both Biomechanical research with technology that includes an Optotrak Camera System, Kistler Force Plates, Noraxon EMG System, and CMI Humac Isokinetic Dynamometer, as well as cardiopulmonary or physiological research with technology that includes the Montara EKG Instrument and Treadmill, TrueOne Metabolic Measurement System, Spirometer and GE Logiq-e Ultrasound, and DEXA.

Faculty in the Department are active leaders in Kinesiology and athletic training locally, regionally, as well as nationally. Several faculty in the Departments of Kinesiology and Physical Therapy conduct research and service through the Central California Sports Sciences Institute housed on campus.

Required Education: For appointment, candidates must possess an earned doctorate (PhD, DSc, EdD) in Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Exercise Science, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution (or equivalent); however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the time of appointment (August 17, 2018).

Required Experience:
1) Certified as an Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification, Inc. and evidence of clinical practice as an Athletic Trainer (can be obtained concurrently with post-professional degrees);
2) Evidence of teaching experience in the areas of Athletic Training or Sports Medicine;
3) Evidence of peer-reviewed publications in the areas of Athletic Training or Sports Medicine, and
4) Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
1) Evidence of experience attracting external funding;
2) Experience in teaching using current methodologies, such as online and hybrid environments, mobile technology enhanced instruction, and flipped classroom methodologies;
3) Experience in evidence-based practice, outcomes assessment, and/or policy development;
4) Experience incorporating high-impact practices into teaching such as writing-intensive courses, collaborative assignments, diversity/global learning, service learning, and
5) Experience in overseeing AT students in clinics with athletes/patients.
