The Department of Physical Therapy at California State University, Fresno is accepting applications for one tenure track position at the Assistant Professor or the Associate Professor rank. The successful candidate will conduct clinical research and teach in at least two of the following areas of expertise: clinical neurosciences, body systems, pathophysiology, prosthetics, orthotics, radiology, and foundational evaluation and treatment. The ability to take an active role in any of our three research and clinical laboratories in the areas of gait and biomechanics, adult and pediatric clinical neurosciences, and neuro-motor control is desirable. Additional responsibilities include scholarly activities, advising students, student doctoral project supervision, curriculum development, collaborative research, service at all levels of the university, and community outreach.
The Department of Physical Therapy at Fresno State has a well-established and respected Doctoral program. Our faculty members have diverse clinical and research expertise across the lifespan, including pediatric, adolescent, and aging populations of the culturally diverse Central Valley. Faculty research initiatives are broad, collaborating with faculty from across the University, including kinesiology, nursing, public health, engineering and communicative disorders (details available at http://www.fresnostate.edu/chhs/.) In addition to grant support, faculty have received both assigned time and funding through Chancellor, Provost, and College Awards. Faculty research and faculty-led student projects have won numerous awards over the last several years.
Department classrooms and laboratories include state-of-the-art equipment to support both teaching and research, including several research laboratories, one known as the Gait Analysis Movement Evaluation (GAME) laboratory and a new Infant Motor Perception lab (IMPL). The GAME lab is currently equipped to do both Biomechanical research with technology that includes an Optotrak Camera System, Kistler Force Plates, Noraxon EMG System, CMI Human Isokinetic Dynamometer; as well as cardiopulmonary or physiological research with technology that includes the TrueOne Metabolic Measurement System, Montara EKG Instrument and Treadmill, and Spirometer and GE Logiq e Ultrasound. The IMPL lab focuses on motor-cognitive-perceptual interactions involving infant motor development, biomechanics, and visual-cognitive performance in typically developing and infants with motor disability. In addition we have a Neuro Motor Control laboratory that is associated with our Gait, Balance and Mobility Center with state-of-the-art equipment for treatment of gait and balance including two Bertec Balance Advantage posturography systems, vestibular ocular testing and an adult and pediatric body weight support treadmill systems. Most recently we have added a DEXA scan and Functional Electrical Stimulation bike.
Our faculty shares access with other departments in the College to the Human Performance Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology and to the Department of Nursing's Knorr Patient Simulation Lab. Additionally, the program has two on-site clinics (Gait, Balance &amp; Mobility Center and Musculoskeletal Care Clinic) that provide a unique opportunity for our PT students to integrate classroom teaching into patient care very early on in the curriculum. The program also has a human cadaver laboratory with a filtered ventilation system and overhead dissecting camera system. In Fall 2015 the Department made its new home in a state-of-the-art new building, which expanded facilities to include two additional large teaching laboratories, as well as new faculty /staff offices, and student/faculty conference spaces.
Required Education: For appointment, candidates must possess one of the following: 1) An earned doctorate (PhD, DSc, EdD) in Physical Therapy or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution (or equivalent); however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) candidates may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the time of appointment or 8/16/18. 2) Post-professional DPT from an accredited institution (or equivalent) with ABPTS certification or evidence of clinical excellence in desired clinical teaching areas. Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor requires evidence of a substantially higher level of experience and accomplishment in teaching and scholarly productivity.
1) A minimum of three years of clinical experience in physical therapy practice;
2) Evidence of success in research and teaching expertise in at least two of the following areas: clinical neurosciences, pathophysiology, exercise physiology, wellness, prosthetics and orthotics, radiology, and foundational evaluation and treatment;
3) Demonstrated ability to utilize technology to enhance instruction and student learning;
4) Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and;
5) Must be licensed or obtain a physical therapy license in California within two years of appointment
1) Evidence of experience attracting external funding;
2) Active participation or leadership roles within the profession of Physical Therapy or relevant professional organizations;
3) Experience teaching using current methodologies, including online and hybrid environments, tablet enhanced instruction, and flipped classroom methodologies;
4) Experience or leadership in outcomes assessment and service learning, and
5) Leadership roles in a clinic or research setting.
