Assistant Director for Immersions, Justice and Outreach

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director for Immersions, Justice and Outreach supports the University Ministry (UM) Arrupe Immersion Program (50% time) and oversees the University Ministry social justice, tutoring, Solidarity-in-Action, Ignatian Solidarity Network programs, and other activities related to direct service, education and advocacy for social justice and peace (50% time). The assistant director serves as a university-wide resource on community engagement and social justice initiatives for students, faculty and staff at USF. The position reports to both the associate director for immersions and the director of University Ministry.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Support the Arrupe Immersion Program through coordination of any and all aspects of immersion trips, including but not limited to itinerary development, communication and marketing, student recruitment, student leadership development, orientation, reflection, budgeting, paying invoices, leading trips, and coordinating post-immersion programming for students.
2. Oversee the development and coordination of community action programs for students in the local community that foster social responsibility, volunteerism, and solidarity with the poor.
3. Direct the graduate student staff in charge of the tutoring program, solidarity in action programs, and days of service.
4. Ensure an integrated and coordinated strategy for community engagement programs through the UM office that are in concert with the University institutional learning outcomes and UM office goals.
5. Oversee the response to all inquiries to the office for requests for volunteers and program partnerships.
6. Plan and manage program budgets, pay invoices and expenses through Concur, develop project goals/objectives, and annual reports.
7. Hire, train, supervise and support graduate or undergraduate student support staff.
8. Supervise and mentor Resident Ministers (RMs) assigned to program area.
9. Maintain communication and foster collaboration with USF departments and divisions as well as community partners, national and international organizations and networks, including the national office of Jesuit Social and International Ministries, the Archdiocesan Office of Public Policy and Social Concerns, Catholic Relief Services, Jesuit Refugee Services, etc.
10. Serve on university committees as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in relevant field. Commitment to and 3-5 years experience in social justice movements, social change theory, global solidarity, and student leadership development. Experience in youth or university campus ministry. Excellent communication, computer and organizational skills. Demonstrated competence in Ignatian spirituality, Catholic social thought, and the tradition of Jesuit education. Ability to travel and available for evening/weekend work. Bilingual (Spanish preferred).
