The Clemson University Department of Public Health Sciences (DPHS) seeks an experienced biostatistician for a 12-month, tenure track/tenured faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level.

The incumbent will join an existing collaboration of faculty (within the department and across the university) conducting a variety of research aimed at improving health outcomes and enhancing health equity in South Carolina and across the globe. Collaborative research is valued within our department and across the university. Our research teams include collaborators within Clemson University (e.g. electrical and computing engineering, computer science, industrial engineering, bioengineering, nursing, healthcare architecture) and with the Department of Public Health Sciences and the Center for Global Health of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). The incumbent will also collaborate on clinical and community-oriented research with the Greenville Health System (GHS).

The incumbent will teach a negotiated load of graduate-level quantitative courses (typically 2 per academic year) and graduate seminars/lectures populated by students from our MS/PhD in Applied Health Research & Evaluation degree program, our Joint PhD in Biomedical Data Sciences and Informatics degree program (with the Medical University of South Carolina), and working professionals in our Graduate Certificate in Clinical and Translational Research.

The incumbent will provide statistical support and guidance to department and collaborating faculty researchers as well as graduate students and postdocs. Specific duties are outlined below. The incumbent will provide service to the department/college/university through committee membership, mentoring students, and other opportunities to help advance the academic environment.


Required - Hold an earned doctorate in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a closely related field; Evidence of experience in the design and analysis of clinical, behavioral, observation and participatory research to include clinical trials; Evidence of co-authoring/authoring grant proposals, protocols and peer-reviewed publications; Developed computing skills to include, but not limited to, various biostatistical packages (e.g. SAS, R, STATA); Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and Additional Preferred Qualifications - Knowledge of clinical trials designs incorporating biomarkers and electronic health record data; Knowledge of computer programming languages, such as C, Python, and/or JAVA; and Previous exposure and/or current interest in data science and biomedical informatics
