Position Summary: The Research Project Director position leads, manages and grows the Thurston Arthritis Research Center's (TARC) community studies in Smithfield, NC along with the flagship study, the Johnston County Osteoarthritis Project (JoCo OA). JoCo OA is a 25-year and ongoing epidemiological research study of osteoarthritis (OA) in Johnston County, NC. This internationally recognized study is one of the premier sources of information on the distribution and determinants of OA and is one of only a few population-based research studies of its kind. Current JoCo OA participants complete study follow-up visits every 5 years. New JoCo OA participants will be enrolled beginning in 2018. JoCo OA and its affiliated projects require coordinated management and oversight. The Research Project Director will be responsible for the execution and oversight of the JoCo OA and the affiliated studies in Smithfield, NC. Six or more full-time staff, and additional part-time employees as needed will report to the Research Project Director. Ability to work with an investigative team, supervise and engage employees to their very best efforts, and develop and nurture community partners are sought-after experiences for this position.

Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree or higher from an appropriately accredited institution is required, with a minimum of 5 year's experience. A degree in a health-related field is preferred.
Qualification and Experience: Applicant should have minimum of 5 years of experience in health-related research studies. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in managing health-related research studies, in research project management, in supervising a team, and strong management skills with high attention to detail and successful resolution of problems. Preferred experience includes: experience in a community-based setting building working relationships and experience with IRB submissions.
