Instructor - Smead Aerospace Engineering Sciences
Smead Aerospace Engineering Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a full-time instructor to teach in its undergraduate program. The instructor will be a member of the AES faculty and will participate in course development and assessment, including labs, faculty governance, and university service. This position will be long-term with contracts renewable every 2-3 years. A competitive salary will be based on qualification and experience.
Viable candidates should be capable of teaching a wide range of undergraduate aerospace engineering courses in both lecture and laboratory formats. This instructor will share the lab management role for sophomore, junior, and senior level undergraduate lab sections. This role includes coordinating the logistics of running a successful lab section - including, but not limited to, working closely with the faculty teaching aerospace engineering courses and their graduate Teaching Assistants regarding training, scheduling, lab documentation, logistics, supplies. The role also includes managing student course assistants who supervise lab experiments. The candidate must have knowledge of the breadth of Aerospace Engineering core areas such as thermodynamics, structures, materials, aerodynamics, propulsion, electronics, and orbital mechanics. In-depth technical knowledge about the lab hardware is not required - this is provided by the existing technical staff. However a basic understanding and appreciation for aerospace engineering fundamentals, as well as excellent management, communication and organizational skills, along with a willingness to learn quickly, is required. This position will likely teach 2-3 courses per year for off-cycle offerings of core Aerospace Engineering undergraduate courses and/or teach/advise Senior Design capstone projects.
