Responsibilities:

The Senior Associate Director of Global Services Systems leads the Office of Global Services' efforts to ensure the best technology, data analytics, and innovative procedures to support all aspects of the unit's services. These efforts include, but are not limited to, the SUNAPSIS operations, data research and system designs, and implementation of strategies to advance the support systems and tools that serve students across the entire cycle of their enrollment. The Senior Associate Director, reporting to the OGS Dean, works closely with the OGS leadership team and partners with EMSA/PAN systems, ITS, and other related offices/units of Northeastern and vendors to envision, strategize, and maximize data use and IT systems. The incumbent provides innovative solutions to OGS', as well as the university's, constant needs for deep data and analytics for evidence-driven decision-making, meticulous SEVIS compliance, and comprehensive student services. Illustrative of the Senior Associate Director's responsibilities are as follows:

  • Lead in designing efficient data flow from the OGS in-house databases to SEVIS, Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, University Data Administration, Office of General Counsel, Registrar's Office, and external customers such as government agencies and IIE for Open Doors.
  • Oversee the processes of data categorization, collection and analysis to inform student service needs and decision-making.
  • Manage the OGS IT system scanning and updating to ensure its alignment with the university system and the delivery of OGS' maximal services and products to customers. This includes analyzing office needs and identifying technological and system solutions to meet those needs.
  • Lead the development, installation, and maintenance of third-party software systems such as SUNAPSIS, Salesforce, and creations of apps for mobile devices to meet the needs of OGS advisors and the international student population.
  • Collaborate with Associate Dean of Policy and Compliance and Data Manager to ensure error-free data feeds from university's systems to the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Participate in all relevant campus-wide technical committees and serve as a key person partnering with other campus stakeholders on all technology items consistent with OGS IT environment.
  • With previous experience or training, the incumbent may serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for the F-1 Visa Program and as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program oversees data conversion, business processes and software education and training of office staff and clientele using the new system; keeps up with software upgrades and adjusts business processes as needed; supervises a small staff working with SEVIS batching and software implementation.
    The Senior Associate Director must stay current with SEVIS-related and regulatory updates in order to be savvy in providing innovation for data and software supports. Working with other OGS associate directors, the Senior Associate Director of Global Services Systems ensures the adoption of appropriate technical procedures for institutional compliance with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and with all federal regulations in relation to the Student and Exchange Visitor System (SEVIS).

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred, in an appropriate area of specialization (computer science, information technology, mathematics, statistics, or international education) with minimum of 6 years experience; preferably three years’ experience in system support; three years of experience in SUNAPSIS or external systems in relation to SEVIS; individuals with industry experience, especially with federal regulations affecting international students and scholars (F-1, J-1), are welcome to apply; experience supporting and assisting with technology for implementations and enhancements; previous supervisory experience; excellent written and interpersonal communication skills; excellent computer skills and proficiency with databases; demonstrated ability to work well in a high volume, fast-paced, and innovative international education environment, and skills as highlighted below:
    • Database software (SPSS, Access, or some other type).
    • Data visualization and reporting (Tableau or other equivalents).
    • Data storage and management.
    • Strong presentation skills.

    Preferred Qualifications: Ability to manage in a dynamic, changing environment; willingness to collaborate and work in a team environment; experience with a large system implementation; excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; experience living/working/studying abroad a plus.

    This position supports the multiple teams operating within the Office of Global Services. This person plays a key role in ensuring that the needs - technical, functional, and statistical - of each team are addressed fully and implemented. Experience in sharing and transferring knowledge to others and providing training to those whom the IT systems support.

    Preferred Technical Skills: Experience with web development or APP developing tools are highly desirable. Ability to put forward initiatives to leverage what OGS does to align with best practices and develop programs.
    • Experience with software management
    • Experience with web development, including proficiency with WordPress and Java Script
    • Experience working with large data (preferably in University setting)

    Interpersonal and Supervisory Skills: Since this is a managerial-level position, a successful candidate would also need to have excellent people skills and ability to work across university units. OGS collaborates with partners across Northeastern campuses and beyond to enhance the University’s global character and network. This person is required to have strong collaborative skills reaching out to other university offices, such as Institutional Research and Data Administration, Registrar’s Office, Student Affairs, and Admissions.
    • Ability to work well under pressure and still meet demands (prioritizing) of each team.
    • Solid and clear verbal and written communication skills.
    • Pleasant and enthusiastic individual, who is enthusiastic to work with students, colleagues, SEVIS contacts, and outside offices.
    • Experience in supervising 1-2 individuals is required.
    • Ability to set and meet expectations and deadlines.
    • Ability to multi-task and be well organized.
