About the Position

The Academic Advisor/Graduation Specialist supports San Jose State University's Student Success Plan by providing consistent, accurate, moderately complex academic advising services to undergraduate students in the College of Humanities & the Arts. Working in the College’s Student Success Center under general supervision, the Graduation Specialist directly supports students on issues related to timely progress toward degree completion and graduation.

The Graduation Specialist provides academic advisement and information on University policies, procedures, and graduation requirements to undergraduate students. He or she works closely with Success Center advising staff, academic departments, and other university offices to address identified student challenges, using a preventive approach to solve problems impacting graduation. In collaboration with academic departments and student service professionals at the college and university levels, the incumbent develops, implements, and assesses workshops, outreach presentations, and other services specifically designed to increase student retention and persistence to graduation. He or she also collaborates as a team member on delivery of general advising services, new student orientations, student retention initiatives, and academic success workshops.
