The Ithaca College Department of Environmental Studies and Sciences invites applications for a full-time, tenure-eligible Assistant Professor position in Environmental Policy. We seek a dedicated teacher/scholar eager to work with undergraduates who can help our students better understand the institutions and decisions surrounding society's interactions with the environment. With this hire we are interested to diversify our faculty community socially and intellectually, and to strengthen our department's commitment to social justice and the environment.
Position/Job Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree completed by August 1, 2018 in a field closely related to Environmental Policy, (e.g. environmental politics, environmental law, legal studies, environmental economics, political science, geography, GIScience, planning)
• Strong desire for teaching undergraduates, and potential for excellence therein
• Potential for scholarship in collaboration with undergraduates
• Desire for active participation in the Department, School, College, or broader community

Desired Topical Expertise and/or Interests (including practical/professional experience):
• U.S. environmental policy/regulation/law
• environmental or climate justice
• international environmental policy/regulation/law
• global environmental governance
• regional urban and/or rural planning
• Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and their use in environmental policy, planning, or justice
• GIS in upper-level classroom, laboratory, or field teaching
• professional experience in any of the above areas

The Department of Environmental Studies and Sciences (ENVS) is an interdisciplinary department founded in 2009 after ten years as an inter-departmental program. ENVS is a locus of activity on campus, offering innovative, place-based, experiential education in two major degree programs (Environmental Studies B.A. and Environmental Science B.S.) and one minor program (Environmental Studies). After a period of exponential growth, the department now has a stable population of about 100 students. Interdisciplinary thinking is the norm in this department. The full-time faculty include a naturalist, a toxicologist, a historian, an archaeologist, a conservation biologist, a geographer, a geologist, and a humanist writer. ENVS also benefits from the significant contributions of part-time faculty in areas outside the expertise of the full-time faculty. Like others at Ithaca College, ENVS faculty are dedicated to excellence in undergraduate teaching and innovative education in and out of the classroom.
