Assistant Professor of Urban Design - City & Regional Planning
Position Description: The School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania, through our Department of City and Regional Planning, is seeking an emerging leader in urban design to advance our Schoolas highly regarded cross-disciplinary approach to urban design scholarship and teaching. We encourage individuals with a commitment to leadership, scholarly research, and multidisciplinary practice, conducted in a lively intellectual environment, to apply for this position. The successful candidate will: a¢ be an emerging scholar or emerging leader in one or more of the following areas: urbanism; urban form and evolution; place-making; the public realm; neighborhoods and districts; urban development policy and practice; sustainable design; urban ecology, and infrastructure planning and design. a¢ possess international as well as domestic knowledge, interest, and experience. a¢ have an understanding of or record of teaching lecture, seminar, and/or studio courses at the graduate level, with an interest in teaching urban design theory, methods and studios. a¢ have an emerging record of publication and/or funded research and/or practice. Be skilled in, and committed, to working collaboratively with faculty and advanced graduate students from disciplines across the School and University. A PhD or appropriate terminal degree in planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, or other closely allied field is required. The Department seeks qualified applicants for this full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor for the 2018-2019 academic year beginning July 1, 2018. Initial screenings will begin in October and continue until the position is filled. This is a tenure-track appointment to the standing faculty, who are responsible for maintaining and extending their discipline through their teaching, scholarship, and participation in the governance of the Department and School.
