Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or related field. Two years of directly related, full time experience with advanced research and laboratory activities. Experience in sampling or working with water and wastewater treatment systems. Knowledge of drinking water treatment processes and water quality monitoring. Experience with advanced analytical techniques including knowledge and/or operating experience of gas/liquid chromatography and/or mass spectrometer. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's in Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or related field. Experience in performing water quality analyses including dissolved oxygen, pH, alkalinity, total suspended solids, turbidity, etc. Experience establishing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Quality Assurance (QA), and Quality Control (QC) protocols.

Brief Description of Duties:

Working under the strategic direction of the Research Scientist at the Center for Clean Water Technology (CCWT) at Stony Brook University, the appointed candidate will be capable of working independently, but also enjoy being part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists and staff. Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.

Research:

Perform detailed experiments of water/wastewater samples.

Conduct process control sampling at pilot-scale advanced wastewater treatment systems

Prepare reagents and standards for both routine and non-routine laboratory analyses and maintain accurate laboratory notes and records.

Perform routine and non-routine laboratory analyses.

Data analyses

Communications:

Develop SOPs

Writing reports/manuscripts.

Supervising graduate students, giving formal presentations at or attending conferences or meetings on behalf of the Center.

Communication with government agencies, non-government organizations, and the public.

Other duties as assigned.
