Earlham College is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer/Strength and Conditioning Coordinator in the Department of Athletics. This is a full time, 10-month administrative faculty appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes a full benefits package.This position will involve working with the Head Athletic Trainer, providing sports medicine coverage for Earlham's 20 intercollegiate teams. In addition, the position will work closely with the Earlham coaching staff to develop and implement strength and conditioning programs. The proportion of each responsibility will depend on the athletic season and the overall needs of the department. All duties are performed in compliance with the rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, the North Coast Athletic Conference and Earlham College.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assistant Athletic Trainer
  • Sports medicine coverage of practices and contests.
  • Travel with teams is required.
  • Evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
  • Assist in providing a safe playing environment for Earlham student-athletes.
  • Assist with the management of the Athletic Training facilities.
  • Perform administrative duties such as physicals, injury reports and insurance claim forms.
  • Communication with coaching staff concerning athlete injury status and return to play.
  • Strength and Conditioning Coordinator


  • Effectively develop and implement strength and conditioning programs for 20 NCAA Division III athletics teams.
  • Work with head coaches to develop sport-specific programs that align with the goals of the head coach for pre-, post- and in-season development.
  • Provide critical injury prevention training and preparedness for student-athletes to reach their greatest level of competitiveness.
  • Provide coaches with the most recent research and methods in the field of exercise science, fitness and strength training.
  • Assist in managing the Department of Athletics Varsity Weight Room.
  • Supervise athletes during their use of the Department of Athletics Weight Room.
  • Perform fitness and strength testing on student-athletes.
  • Promote student-athlete welfare and provide a safe environment for student-athletes in regards to fitness and strength training.
  • Focus on the complete well-being of the student-athlete, including overall health, fitness and nutrition.

Experience & Qualifications

A bachelor's degree is required: a master's degree is preferred.

NATA/BOC certified Athletic Trainer.

Licensed Athletic Trainer by the State of Indiana or eligible to obtain license within 90 days of hire.

NSCA/ CSCS or CSCC/ SCCC certification as a Strength and Conditioning Coach.

CPR/AED certification.
