Position Summary

The Department of Social Work at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) invites applications and nominations for a nine-month, tenured position at the Associate level. This position is available Fall 2018. Now is an especially exciting time for the department as we enter into over forty years of partnership with the Department of Sociology and Social Work at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCA&T) a historically black university (HBCU). Specifically, the MSW program is a joint program with the Department of Sociology and Social Work at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCA&T); and the BSW Program has a 45 year joint field program with NCA&T. The Department has approximately 300 BSW majors, 90 MSW students, and 13 full-time faculty.

A strong commitment to diversity/inclusion, social justice, and student-centered social work education is essential for this position. We are particularly looking for scholars with a national reputation in the field and a well-established research agenda in community engaged scholarship in behavioral health (mental health, alcohol and drug prevention/treatment), aging, health/well-being, child welfare, or social justice. However, candidates with other research expertise are invited to apply. Candidates should also have a track record in securing external funding. The person in this position will have teaching responsibilities across both the BSW and the MSW programs. Experience in PhD teaching and dissertation committee supervision is preferred. Candidates must possess a MSW and a doctorate in social work or a related social science field and have at least two years of post-master's practice experience.

Additionally, the successful candidate must:
• Work effectively within a diverse department and promote a collegial work environment;
• Be an active citizen in the school and university, with partnering universities and the broader community;
• Have successfully demonstrated social work teaching, research, and service;
• Have excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills and enjoy interdepartmental and interdisciplinary collaboration;
• Have a record of scholarship appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor; and
• Strengthen graduate and undergraduate programs, and support student needs.
The Department has CSWE-accredited BSW and MSW programs and National Council for
Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)-accredited BSW and MSW school social work licensure
programs. The Department has external funding from the National Institute of Health, HRSA, Moses
Cone Health Foundation, as well as North Carolina Child Welfare Education and other sources.
