Reporting directly to the Provost, the Vice Provost of Academic Programs and Faculty Development will have responsibility over a broad range of areas in academic affairs with a focus on academic programming and quality. This position provides innovative and executive leadership for the creation and implementation of effective and quality academic programs and curriculum, and supports faculty development for excellence in teaching and scholarship. Ensures that all goals and initiatives align with the University’s overall mission and supports the strategic plan.

Outcomes:

• Acts as a senior leader in the Provost’s team advancing change leadership across the academic enterprise, and providing direction and executive oversight that promotes academic excellence. Fosters a culture and processes that are informed and guided by data. Serves as a driver in focusing on and improving key metrics including retention, completion, employment, and learning outcomes, particularly as they relate to program quality and faculty development
• Guides and manages a comprehensive academic system of high quality and relevant programs and curriculum offerings of the University; overseeing new program development, the annual program report process, and ongoing review of the academic portfolio in collaboration with faculty governance bodies. Ensures programs are guided by data and are directly connected to market trends and outcomes
• Supervises and works closely with the Director of the Office of Teaching and Learning to ensure that faculty are supported to continuously improve teaching and learning for NLU students
• Supervises and works closely with the Dir. of Engaged Research to ensure that faculty are supported to continuously improve and expand engaged research across the institution
• Works closely with the Asst. Vice Provost whose responsibilities include supporting all faculty-facing processes (e.g. governance & faculty policies, tenure & promotion, faculty evaluation, sabbatical application, etc.) as well as facilitating the Academic Operations Group
• Continuously maintains knowledge of current trends, issues, technologies and processes by researching applicable literature, programs, services, and attending various seminars and conferences
• Serves on the President’s Cabinet and the Academic Cabinet

Competencies:

• Master’s degree required. Doctoral degree preferred
• Minimum 5 years of related higher education or related administrative experience relevant to academic programming and faculty development
• Effective management and change leadership skills
• Demonstrated expertise in working with various internal and external constituencies
• Knowledge of program development as well as online learning
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical skills
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Proven problem solving skills with strong attention to detail
