Jobs in this career family provide the accounting and financial activities for the University. Functions include general accounting, budget, financial analysis and audit, tax and reporting, accounts payable and receivables, government cost reimbursement, contract administration, cashiering, cash management/ banking, investments, treasury and travel audit.

Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.

At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.

Position Emphasis:

The Accountant is a full-time University Staff (non-classified) position that performs accounting and technical support services to the Office of Financial Aid by performing and monitoring accounting transactions for accuracy in the PeopleSoft Finance and HCM systems, and the CU-SIS Financial Aid system. The position will assist with the reconciliation of accounts for financial aid programs, manage the data clean-up for PS Finance, and coordinate the off-campus work-study billing activity. This position is also responsible for performing journal entries, invoicing, and tracking accounts receivables form outside clients; verifying and correcting discrepancies and errors in the PeopleSoft accounting system and the CU-SIS Financial Aid system. The position also serves as a primary person for off-campus work-study student employees time entry for Student Employment unit. In addition, the position may process pay vouchers and will adjust and balance various accounts; assist with reconciling and compiling data for federal, state and institution reports.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position has been established at $ 41,235 to $ 47,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution and 1 year of professional level experience in accounting.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Financial Aid, Scholarships and Student Employment area including Title IV, Title VII and Off-campus student employment hiring and contracts
  • Experience designing and building Excel or Access databases and reports
  • Experience and knowledge of governmental or higher education accounting procedures
  • Experience with web based information systems, such as PeopleSoft, or similar
