Shuttle Driver (Part-time)
*Please note, Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is required for this position.
Position schedule: Monday - Thursday, 1:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.*
Summary: The Shuttle Driver operates university owned vehicles to provide safe transportation of faculty, staff, and students to on/off campus locations, as assigned.
- Operates shuttle bus to provide safe transportation of faculty, staff, and students to on and off campus locations, as assigned.
- Adheres to fixed schedules to meet customer expectations.
- Performs vehicle pre- and post-trip inspections; reports any defects. Completes daily bus log and fuels bus, as required.
- Maintains a clean and neat vehicle.
- Reports found property of any items left in vehicle.
- Completes rider logs for all persons transported and uses two-way-radio to communicate with Parking and Transportation office or Police Communications Center.
- Builds rapport with students and employees, allowing them to have a sense of safety and security.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- High school diploma with two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Good driving record and possession; possesses a Class B, Commercial Driver License (CDL) with passenger endorsement or the ability to obtain a CDL.
- Ability to receive and maintain the University’s automobile insurance policy.
- Ability to drive in all weather conditions and road hazards.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Assists in providing problem solving assistance for students.
- Proficiency in computer use for timekeeping and training.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and make logical decisions.
- Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
- Ability to operate equipment safely, such as vehicle wheelchair lift and two-way radios.
- Ability to document passenger ridership data through iPad technology and manually.
- Ability to successfully complete First Aid, CPR, and Blood borne Pathogen training.
- Ability to work during holidays, weekends, day/night shifts and overtime.
- Ability to sit and safely drive for long periods of time and during inclement weather.
- Ability to pass random drug tests, as scheduled.
- Physical requirements: Light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; climbing, crouching, standing, walking, lifting, talking, hearing; visual acuity to observe unsafe/hazardous situations and conditions.
- Ability to describe physical descriptions of people, articles, or activities, to view suspicious activities and view computer terminals. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; subject to occasional extreme heat and cold.
- Responsible for own work.
