Assistant Professor

The School of Social Work at Illinois State University invites applications for a position of Assistant Professor.  The ideal candidate will be interested in teaching across the curriculum at the BSW and MSW levels.  This is a nine-month tenure-track position.  This position is primarily responsible for teaching practice courses with a secondary responsibility of teaching research courses.  The initial teaching load is four (4) courses for the first academic year and then five (5) courses per year thereafter.  Salary is highly competitive.

The School of Social Work houses the Center for Child Welfare and Adoption Studies, and the Baccalaureate and Master’s degree programs that prepare 120 undergraduates and 80 master’s degree students.  Faculty teach across both BSW and the MSW programs.  The MSW Program currently has three concentrations including Child and Family Practice, Gerontology Practice and School Social Work. In addition to concentrations, students can acquire the coursework necessary for child welfare certification and the School of Social Work collaborates with the Women’s and Gender program for a WGS graduate certificate and with the Department of Sociology for a graduate certificate in the Social Aspects of Aging. The graduate program has an emerging area of practice in the field of integrated behavioral health care. There are twelve faculty and three Administrative/Professional Staff.

Illinois State University is located in Central Illinois mid-way between Chicago, Indianapolis, and St. Louis and has a student population of almost 21,000.  It is a Doctoral Research-Intensive University offering 72 undergraduate programs, 42 master’s programs, 10 doctoral programs, a Specialist in School Psychology and 8 graduate level certificates in six colleges. Minimum Qualifications:  The position requires an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program by appointment start date and a doctorate in social work or related field.  ABD candidates can apply but must complete the doctorate within the first year of hire.  A minimum of two years post-MSW practice experience is required. State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for teaching positions. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.
