Senior Staff Accountant
Job Description Summary: Job ID: 4822 - FT - Unclassified (salaried)
This position is for a full function high-knowledge senior accountant who is responsible for providing accurate and timely monthly general ledger account reconciliations and analysis of monthly activity as well as preparing reconciliation journal entries for assigned general ledger accounts during the fiscal year. At the end of the fiscal year, this position is responsible for reviewing the monthly work and for preparing journal entries for prepaid expenses as well as preparation of various year-end financial work papers, reports and schedules. This position acts as an accounting mentor for the other staff accountants in the department, and serves as the educational coordinator for the continuing professional development for the General Accounting and Grants Accounting staff.
Duties/Physical Demands: Monthly reconciliations, account analysis, report preparation, and audit work are the primary responsibility of this position. There are physical demands of the job which may consist of general office work, periods of standing or sitting and computer data entry. The secondary function of this position will be acting as the educational coordinator for the accounting staff as well as being responsible for designing the CPE program materials for the accounting staff.
Minimum Qualifications: The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting AND a minimum of three (3) years experience in accounting OR a Bachelor's degree in a business field of study with a minimum of seven (7) years experience in accounting. Requires a strong proficiency with PC-based software including a high level of ability with Excel and other analytical tools. Candidate must possess an excellent use of grammar and have highly functional communication and organizational skills. Candidate should be able to analyze a financial report and understand the elements necessary to create a financial report.
