Associate Director, Physical Plant
Reporting to the Director of Physical Plant, the Associate Director is responsible for the administration, operation and maintenance of campus physical facilities. The physical plant department provides comprehensive operating and maintenance services to over 113 academic, administrative, and residential buildings totaling over 3 million square feet on Hofstra’s 244 acre campus. The Associate Director Manages an experienced team of nearly 100 staff and union trade personnel to execute operations ensuring quality of service within budgetary requirements. The Associate Director is responsible for addressing building infrastructure improvements, planning and scheduling major maintenance outages, and coordinating renovation and relocation projects with representatives from other University departments. Manages technical union trades in providing campus maintenance services including; onsite electrical power, plumbing, sanitation, masonry, carpentry, painting, transportation, fire safety, snow removal, and all site emergency situations affecting the campus.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is required. A post graduate degree, or professional license is preferred. A strong facilities management background is required, with at least seven years in a supervisory capacity.Applicants should have a strong background in facility operations, planning, renovations, and maintenance of building infrastructure systems at higher education facilities or commercial real estate. Experience in medium to high voltage distribution, switching, and safety procedures is highly desirable.The successful candidate should have an established record of progressively increasing responsibility in the field of facilities management, as well as demonstrate the ability to lead in a complex technical organization effectively. Candidates should possess proven ability to manage union personnel, contractors, consultants and experience in project management from design through project closeout. Strong leadership, experience with progressive discipline, management, communication and interpersonal skills are required.
