Responsibilities

The Assistant Director for Student Employment and Engagement will manage and oversee key campus employer relations programs; develop goals/objectives; evaluate programs and services; and partner with internal and external constituents to ensure a transformative experience for student employees.

The Assistant Director for Student Employment and Engagement will develop and offer staff trainings, identify and share trends and resources, and create programming and events for students.


Minimum Qualifications

Education/Work Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, psychology, communication, public relations or other related major.
Must possess experience in a collegiate environment to understand the academic culture and must have the ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, students, parents, and administrators. Computer expertise in Excel, Word, and email communication essential.
Must possess aptitude for numbers, accuracy, attention to detail, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
This position requires an individual to work independently to meet deadlines.
Must be able to advise and interact with students and supervisors.

Skills and/or Abilities:
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Must exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must have superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity.
Ability to research and quickly develop knowledge of employer recruiting strategies, job market trends, occupational, career and personal growth.
Proficiency with Windows environment including word processing, and knowledge of database programs.
Must be a self-starter and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to organize and work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to respect confidentiality and ethical boundaries with regard to guidelines, supervision and professional consultation within an academic environment.


Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree is preferred.

Responsibility / Duty

Student Employment
o Ensure compliance with relevant laws, including but not limited to Title IX, Clery Act, FERPA , HIPPA ; and federal, state, local and University employment law, statues, and practices.
o Coordinate and monitor all aspects of campus wide student employment, including hiring, processing, evaluation, placement, and payroll.
o Collect, audit and maintain necessary employment documents such as the I-9, W-4. Process employment authorizations assuring accurate completion and appropriate authorizations.
o Manage federal work student program, campus employment and MU Work Scholarship budget priorities. Analyze payroll reports to effectively monitor student earning levels and communicate to students and supervisors when work awards have been earned.

Student Advisement and Support
o Manage student employment information including data input and reporting; monitor compliance to policy; and adherence to specific program requirements (i.e MU Scholar and/or Federal Work-Study).
o Provide direct coaching and counseling to students related to skill development, supervisor relationships, professionalism, and employment etiquette.

Employer Relations - On campus constituents
o Actively pursue new on campus employment opportunities for students for Fall, Spring, and Summer.
o Serve as primary resource for University partners and officials seeking support, information, and guidance related to policies and protocol related to student employment.
o Serve as resources for students and employers regarding disputes, coaching, and/or arbitration.

Institutional/Departmental Liaison
o Meet regularly with campus partners to ensure streamlined processes; open communication; and continuous process improvement strategies to positively impact student satisfaction, learning, and retention.
o Participate in campus wide, division, and departmental activities to advance student employment (i.e. New Student Orientation, Faculty Orientation).

o Coordinate training for supervisors and new student employees.
o Develop and implement growth opportunities for returning employees; develop ongoing paraprofessional development initiative for returning student employees.

o Serve on departmental and university committees, task forces, and participate in other professional development activities that aid in the development and maintenance of relationships with other campus departments, faculty, staff and other professionals in the field.
o Additional duties as assigned to support the offices of student affairs and university mission.
