Excelsior College, a regionally accredited, virtual, private, nonprofit institution of higher learning is seeking applicants for the position of Director of Financial Aid and Veterans' Assistance.


The Director of Financial Aid and Veterans' Assistancereports to the Executive Director for Student Registration and Financial Services. This individual directs all areas of financial aid and veterans' assistance administration and compliance. The Director will support the overall mission of the College and work collaboratively within the department and the unit to achieve unit and institutional goals through data driven decisions.


  • Direct the day-to-day operations including the supervision of all staff and the administration of all Veterans' Assistance, Federal, State, private & institutional aid and private educational loans programs. Including all areas of administration of:
  • The Federal Student Aid (FSA) programs, counseling of students and parents, Federal need analysis, processing, satisfactory academic progress, and professional judgments.
  • The New York State aid programs including the certification of the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and Aid to Part-Time Study (APTS), ensuring compliance with these programs.
  • Veterans' Assistance program certifications.
  • Financial aid packaging, origination, initiation of disbursements and monthly reconciliation with the fiscal office.
  • Provide the unit with key performance indicators to make data driven decisions about the financial aid office and the unit.
  • Chief point of contact for the office with College's independent auditors for the annual FSA A-133 audit, and the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Ensure accurate data is calculated and filed timely for all annual reports (FISAP, IPEDS, Clery, HEGIS and HRSA, etc.).
  • Work to promote increased enrollment and course & exam registration and improve the overall educational experience of students.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget, policies, and procedures, staffing and annual training needs for the office of financial aid to ensure compliance, efficiencies, student's success, retention, satisfaction, and persistence.
  • Develop Requests for Information (RFI) to establish preferred lender lists for private loan programs to secure private lending options for Excelsior College students.


  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or a nationally recognized university, required
  • A minimum of eight years' experience in a financial aid office.
  • Candidate must demonstrate expertise in Title IV, Federal Student Aid regulations, financial aid software
  • Experience with PowerFAIDS financial aid management system
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel.
  • Strong supervisory & communication skills,
  • Attention to detail and strong problem solving skills are essential. Demonstrated interest in promoting distance learning higher education to a diverse adult student population.
