Open-Rank Tenure-Track Professor in Mathematics
Job Description Summary: The Department of Mathematics at Furman University invites applications for one or two open-rank tenure-track positions to begin in the fall of 2018. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field, and all areas of specialty will be considered. The position requires teaching excellence, scholarly and professional activity, and effective institutional service. The Department of Mathematics confers bachelor's degrees with majors in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and a joint major with the Department of Economics (Mathematics-Economics). There are currently 12 faculty members who are all involved in various aspects of teaching, undergraduate research, mathematics research and related professional activity, providing students with learning opportunities outside the classroom and in the community, and contributing to Furman's university-wide First Year Writing Seminar program. Furman professors advise undergraduates both formally and informally, and work to build a welcoming student-faculty community. The typical teaching load is five courses per year. Salary Grade: Level 13 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
