Summary of Duties:
The College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) at Washington State University (WSU), a distinguished and innovative land grant university, seeks exceptional candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Associate focusing on Plant-Microbe Interactions. WSU has a rich history of basic and applied plant sciences and this will be the inaugural position in a program aimed at bridging multiple departments and disciplines. For 2017, the search is targeted for a joint position between the laboratory of Maren Friesen in the Departments of Plant Pathology and Crop & Soil Sciences and the laboratory of John Peters within the Institute of Biological Chemistry (IBC). The successful candidate will propose an innovative research project tackling core problems in plant-microbe interactions, leveraging and integrating mutual interests between the two host laboratories in the area of biological nitrogen fixation. WSU has excellent facilities for plant growth, phenomics, genomics, biochemistry, and microscopy and is part of a strong intellectual community in the Palouse alongside our neighbor the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID, 7 miles to the east. Pullman and Moscow are vibrant small towns with a strong sense of community and ready access to outdoor activities.

Responsibilities will include:
conduct rigorous, original science
publish high quality, peer-reviewed research
coordinate a seminar series that will broadly integrate the WSU community
lead a symposium or retreat on a cutting-edge topic selected by the fellow

Required Qualifications:
Required: PhD at time of hire in a relevant discipline (including but not limited to evolution, ecology, plant biology, microbiology, modeling, genomics, physiology, biochemistry, computer science); demonstrated track record of creative, productive research; and ability to work in a dynamic, collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.
