Reports to: Vice President
Works closely with staff in all departments, Human Resources and Management team.
Provides technical safety information to production and other personnel.
Prepares written safety programs and policies.
Identifies company safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs.
Develops annual safety goals.
Participates in new product/process reviews, including process hazard analyses, operator training, etc.
Supports plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety hazards.
Supports plant personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
Maintains safety library (e.g., videos, regulations, reference manuals).
Promotes safety awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters and specific training programs.
Serves as member of the executive and safety committee.
Participates in company occupational safety and health committee.
Assists as necessary in implementation of a hazard communication program and preparation of reports.
Reviews process-operating procedures/records and provides input for safety and health considerations.
Understands federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.
Provides technical support to corporate and plant personnel to ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety and health regulations.
Audits practices and records of manufacturing plants to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state occupational safety and health regulations.
Supports Human Resources on monitoring lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker's compensation claims.
Reviews plant safety committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports and follows up as necessary.
Reviews injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary.
Education and Experience Required:
Minimum Associates degree, Trade or Technical school certificate
3-5 years full time safety and health experience in a manufacturing or production environment
This job operates in a professional office and manufacturing environment. While performing some duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 40 pounds.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area may be expected.
